Pretty Different from California

Well seeing as I’ve been sick, I haven’t really been able to enjoy the snow. I could only look out the window and quietly loudly and annoyingly yearn…

Today, I was supposed to go to the Dickens fair in Deventer, but I woke up looking pretty ridiculously horrible, so I crawled back in bed for another five hours, getting up just in time for a late lunch (yes that means after 12:00.) Feeling (and looking) much better, I got bundled up and decided to take a walk to buy some groceries, cough syrup, and long-overdue daily multi-vitamins.
Well attempting to find a cold medicine is a lot harder than you think. First of all, they’re all in Dutch, or medical terms, which I never paid attention to in the States (and now wish I did.)  Next, they don’t have anything resembling an all-in-one nighttime, sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, fever, best sleep you ever got with a cold medicine. So I found someone who spoke English and explained what I was looking for, and was directed to a tea type thing. Well, that turned out to be one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever drunk…but oh well, hopefully it’ll help.
On my way home, I couldn’t resist going up to the beach and see how it looked now that it was covered in a white blanket. It was gorgeous…

I walked along the beach taking a couple more pictures…

And enjoying the buildings decorated for Christmas…

Then I had some fun with photoshopping some of my photos to get more in the holiday spirit…

Well once I got into my backyard, there was an untouched blanket of snow…

And I had to do something with it, so I built a giant snowman…

Ok maybe not giant…

But playtime was over. Time to go inside, make some hot chocolate, put on my Christmas music, and relish in my first walk in my very own winter wonderland…

It’s amazing how the little things can cheer you up. I can safely say, that now I will be dreaming of a White Christmas.

Word of the Day: sneeuw - snow
