Rainy Days and How to Get Over Them

Rainy days are fairly common in the Netherlands, and being at the beach, it’s even more of a daily happening. Today however it looked even more gloomy than usual without a promise of clear skies at all. So we needed to make this gloomy day especially cheerful!
Well it helped that we got to go to the school for an hour to SEE SINTERKLAAS! Fien was so excited! She decided to dress up like a fairy princess for the big occasion and looked absolutely adorable…When we got to school, Fien donned her Sinterklaas headband and waiting eagerly…We weren’t allowed inside however during the actual party because it would be crowded and distracting, so we decided to wait outside so we could still get a picture of Sinterklaas and his three (including one giant one) Zwarte Piet…So after school, laden with gifts and pepernoten, we walked home (in the rain) and decided to make some delicious cookies! I found a super easy recipe and we added brown sugar to the outside and then put them in the oven already looking delicious…Fien even helped with the clean up…I should also add that this was the easiest time I’ve ever had putting Fien to sleep. All I had to do was tell her that as soon as she went to bed, the oven would turn on, and when she wakes up, the cookies would be all done! Little sneaky I know, but it worked.
The cookies came out looking fantastic…and they were even better when I melted brown sugar, butter, and Nutella to make a chocolate-y, hazelnut-y, syrup-y goodness to pour on top.
When Fien woke up it was time for cookies and milk! We had them in my house where I put on my Christmas mix and introduced Fien to my favorite Christmas Song - Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” We had a really great time, and even had a mini photo shoot...We danced around for the rest of the afternoon, then went back in the house to make dinner, have pudding, and turn on Dora.
And that’s how you cure the Rainy Day Blues.

Word of the day: regen - rain
